Life, Liberty, and the Firearms that protect them both

Memorial Day

Today is the day we remember those who payed the ultimate price so that we might live out our lives secure in this great land of ours.  For that we honor them as heroes.

There are others out there who think of them in different terms though: father, brother, son, mother, sister, daughter.  While we may honor the fallen, it is their family and friends who are left to mourn them.

If there is anything we as a people can do for those who gave everything for us it is to look after those they left behind.  There is a charity, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), that seeks to do just that.  From its page on Charity Navigator:

Founded out of tragedy in 1994, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) has grown and established itself as the front line resource to families and loved ones of our military men and women. TAPS has provided comfort and care, 24 hours a day, seven days a week through comprehensive services and programs including peer based emotional support, case work assistance, crisis intervention, and grief and trauma resources. TAPS has assisted over 25,000 surviving family members, casualty officers and caregivers. Our National Military Survivor Seminars and Good Grief Camps have been conducted for fourteen years, and are now complemented by regional seminars across the country.

Please give what you can, whenever you can.
