Take a good look around you today. The entire country, and the lives we live in it, exist thanks to the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much to defend it. In a way, the nation itself is a memorial, one so vast and grand that sometimes it is hard to see it, but it is there.
This is yet another excellent excuse to mention Move America Forward’s upcoming annual Troopathon.
The goal of Troopathon is simple: Send care packages to our troops, as many as we can get sponsored in a single 8-hour show. In our first year (2008) our inaugural program brought in over $1.5 million for care packages for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. It was the single largest shipment of care packages ever recorded. Over the succeeding two years, our innovative webcasts have raised over $2 Million for our troops. Since our organization began sending care packages in 2006, we’ve sent over 168 TONS of high quality beef jerky, Gatorade, Oreo cookies and gourmet coffee to our troops, and that’s just the beginning!
It’s all too easy for people like me, who don’t have family or friends in the line of fire, to overlook that there are so many brave men and women out their putting themselves in harm’s way for all our sakes. That is why I am grateful not just to them, but to groups like Move America Forward who make sure that they are not, in fact, forgotten.
It seems that there are a number of blog teams who are competing to see which can raise the most funding for care packages. They’re all patriots, so I’m not going to endorse one over the others, but I did pick a team for my own contribution. I think it will be pretty fun to see who comes out on top.
Times are tough, but please give if you can.
