Life, Liberty, and the Firearms that protect them both

Support of law enforcement

Gun control advocates always like to claim that law enforcement organizations are all lined up behind their efforts to disarm the citizenry.  Well, every year the National Association of Chiefs of Police conducts a mail survey of chiefs of police and sheriffs in the United States.  I’m not sure how long ago the results were released but here is the relevant section of the 2011 survey:

16. Should any law-abiding citizen be able to purchase a firearm for sport or self defense, provided they are not former felons, drug addicts, adjudicated mentaly defective, etc?

98% Yes

17. Do you support the statute that allows retired officers to carry a concealed firearm?

99% Yes

18. Would general recognition throughout the nation of CCW permits issued by a state, in the way drivers’ licenses are recognized throughout the country, facilitate the violent crime-fighting potential of the professional law enforcement community?

79% Yes

19. Do you think qualified, law-abiding armed citizens can be of assistance to the professional law enforcement community in promoting justice and reducing violent criminal activity?

74% Yes

So cops almost uniformly favor individual gun ownership, and the vast majority favor concealed carry in particular.  Also note that all four of those numbers are up from last year, meaning that the more cops learn about individual gun ownership and concealed carry, the more they like them.
